The bookstore boasted a spacious area and a distinctive interior design, with its most striking feature being a custom-made, expansive metal curved ceiling. This ceiling, with its sleek, flowing design, added a modern yet cozy ambiance to the bookstore. The client’s requirements were clear: design a bespoke wall-washng light to ensure uniform and comprehensive illumination across the entire ceiling.

However, the unique structure of the curved metal ceiling posed significant challenges. Its expansive surface and arc-shaped design made it difficult for conventional lighting solutions to achieve uniform illumination.

To tackle this challenge, our R&D team promptly conducted multiple on-site surveys and technical analyses. Initially, we opted for commonly used LED strip lights, known for their flexibility and ease of installation, which seemed suitable for adapting to the curved ceiling’s shape. However, testing revealed that the LED strips had a limited light projection range, failing to cover the entire ceiling surface. This resulted in noticeable dark spots in certain areas, undermining the overall lighting effect. Moreover, the light distribution was uneven, with areas near the light source appearing overly bright and distant areas too dim, falling short of the bookstore’s high standards for lighting quality.

Recognising the limitations of LED strips, we pivoted directional linear lights, which allowed for more targeted light projection and theoretically better adaptation to the curved ceiling. We carefully adjusted the installation angles and light direction to expand the coverage area. While this approach improved the lighting range compared to the LED strips, it still fell short of the ideal outcome. The light distribution remained uneven, with some corners inadequately lit.

The success of SurfWash extended beyond this single project. Due to its outstanding performance and design, we incorporated it into our standard product line, making it a flagship offering that exemplifies our brand’s commitment to quality and innovation. The SurfWash became a testament to our technical prowess and dedication to client satisfaction, earning us greater trust in the market and laying a strong foundation for future customised lighting projects.
